Hello! My name is Kaila, and I am the creator behind Rooted in Flame. I live in the beautiful state of Maine with my partner, son, and our gaggle of furry four legged companions.
I have always been a creative type, even as a kid. My jewelry journey, and fascination with glass in particular, started when I was 9 years old and learned lampwork bead making at Windover Art Center. I began working there when I got older, and spent many summers teaching lampwork classes to children as the glass beads teacher.
Along the way I purchased my own torch so I could make beads at home, paired that up with my love of crystals and stones (which I inherited from my rock hound dad), and made a hobby of learning different jewelry making techniques. I also experimented with fiber arts and raised angora rabbits and Icelandic sheep during this time.
In the early days of etsy I opened up a shop called Fire and Fleece, where I sold yarn, beads, and jewelry. However in 2017 I had to step away from my shop after experiencing severe health issues. I continued both lampwork and jewelry making at a hobby level over the next few years while I focused on my health, family, and dealing with major life changes. Towards the end of 2022 I found myself spending more and more time on glass and jewelry making again, and began laying the groundwork to get back into business.
Then, in early 2023, Rooted in Flame was born! I focus on quality in my pieces, and enjoy playing with light, color, and texture to create jewelry that is beautifully unique.
I hope you will follow along with me on this next step of my creative journey, and find something beautiful to cherish along the way!
